Would you buy from this man? No?
OK, it’s a cliche not to trust a second-hand car salesman, but cliches apart, why wouldn’t you buy a car from him?
Is it the way he looks or is it the world that he represents, Perhaps you have been taught never to trust men in sheepskin coats, offering you a deal that is good too good to be true? But surely for all we know he may actually be honest, trustworthy and give excellent value for money in his business dealings….
What makes us trust a person or organisation? In contrast to ‘Honest Ron’ here, those of us who work in churches or charities could perhaps once have assumed we held public trust; after all, we are good people doing good things aren’t we?
However, recent history in both the charity sector and the church has sadly damaged that instinctive trust in a society that is already less instinctively trusting of institutions and organisations than it once was. We can no longer assume trust from the general public as a right.
So what can we do to build and keep trust in our organisations? Contact me if you want to explore this further
